The presenter will provide a history of trends in the market for personal property, and how trends change sometimes for the worse. Current trends will also be discussed. Personal property wealth being transferred from one generation to the next, and how does the personal property wealth come in to play. What are the different avenues of liquidation and how do they compare to one another? Two main appraisal assignments are Replacement Valuation and Fair Market Valuations. How does a professional convey to the client of the beneficiaries the differences of each, and why there are such drastic market values on each? The presenter will summarize the points and also explain why it is important to trust the professional or Auction Gallery you use for the sale of the items. How to ask the important questions, and what those questions are.
About Our Speaker:
Deric Torres Senior Vice President of Clars Auction Gallery
Deric is a seasoned acquisitions specialist and appraiser with over 15 years of experience in the auction industry. Since joining Clars Auctions in 2009, he has played a pivotal role in elevating the gallery to national prominence. Deric’s expertise and relationship-building skills have secured multi-million-dollar estates and institutions as well as Clars’ clients from coast to coast. Many of his clients consigned property that has resulted in world record-breaking sales across various departments within the gallery. Among his notable achievements are securing property from the esteemed Metropolitan Museum of Art and discovering an important Japanese cloisonné vase, long thought lost, executed for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Deric’s passion for the industry extends beyond the gallery walls. He shares his knowledge and insights as a regular guest commentator on California and Washington state PBS stations and has been featured on the internationally syndicated television series Pawn Stars on the History Channel.
